Pañcālacaṇḍa With Pañcālacaṇḍa

Sāvatthinidānaṁ.
At Sāvatthī.
At Sāvatthī.

Ekamantaṁ ṭhito kho pañcālacaṇḍo devaputto bhagavato santike imaṁ gāthaṁ abhāsi:
Standing to one side, the young deva Pañcālacaṇḍa recited this verse in the presence of the Blessed One:
Standing to one side, the god Pañcālacaṇḍa recited this verse in the Buddha’s presence:

“Sambādhe vata okāsaṁ,
“The one of broad wisdom has indeed found
“The opening amid confinement

Avindi bhūrimedhaso;
The opening in the midst of confinement,
was discovered by the Buddha of vast intelligence,

Yo jhānamabujjhi buddho,
The Buddha who discovered jhāna,
who woke up to absorption,

Paṭilīnanisabho munī”ti.
The withdrawn chief bull, the sage. ”
the sage, the solitary bull.”

“Sambādhe vāpi vindanti,
“Even in the midst of confinement they find it,
“Even amid confinement they discover,”

(pañcālacaṇḍāti bhagavā)
[O Pañcālacaṇḍa, ” said the Blessed One, ]
said the Buddha to Pañcālacaṇḍa,

Dhammaṁ nibbānapattiyā;
“The Dhamma for the attainment of Nibbāna—
“the principle for attaining extinguishment.

Ye satiṁ paccalatthaṁsu,
Those who have acquired mindfulness,
Those who have acquired mindfulness

Sammā te susamāhitā”ti.
Those perfectly well concentrated. ”
are perfectly serene in samādhi.”
