Vāsudattasutta

With Vāsudatta Vasudatta

Ekamantaṁ ṭhito kho vāsudatto devaputto bhagavato santike imaṁ gāthaṁ abhāsi:
Standing to one side, the god Vāsudatta recited this verse in the Buddha’s presence:
Standing to one side, the young deva Vasudatta recited this verse in the presence of the Blessed One:

“Sattiyā viya omaṭṭho,
“Like they’re struck by a sword,
“As if smitten by a sword,

ḍayhamānova matthake;
like their head was on fire,
As if his head were on fire,

Kāmarāgappahānāya,
a mendicant should wander mindful,
To abandon sensual lust.

sato bhikkhu paribbaje”ti.
to give up sensual desire.”
A bhikkhu should wander mindfully ”

Sakkāyadiṭṭhippahānāya,
