A Person A Person

Atha kho rājā pasenadi kosalo yena bhagavā tenupasaṅkami; upasaṅkamitvā bhagavantaṁ abhivādetvā ekamantaṁ nisīdi. Ekamantaṁ nisinno kho rājā pasenadi kosalo bhagavantaṁ etadavoca:
Then King Pasenadi of Kosala approached the Blessed One, paid homage to him, sat down to one side, and said to him:
Then King Pasenadi of Kosala went up to the Buddha, bowed, sat down to one side, and said to the Buddha,

“kati nu kho, bhante, purisassa dhammā ajjhattaṁ uppajjamānā uppajjanti ahitāya dukkhāya aphāsuvihārāyā”ti?
“Venerable sir, how many things are there which, when they arise within a person, arise for his harm, suffering, and discomfort?”
“Sir, how many things arise inside a person for their harm, suffering, and discomfort?”

“Tayo kho, mahārāja, purisassa dhammā ajjhattaṁ uppajjamānā uppajjanti ahitāya dukkhāya aphāsuvihārāya.
“There are, great king, three things which, when they arise within a person, arise for his harm, suffering, and discomfort.
“Great king, three things arise inside a person for their harm, suffering, and discomfort.

Katame tayo?
What are the three?
What three?

Lobho kho, mahārāja, purisassa dhammo ajjhattaṁ uppajjamāno uppajjati ahitāya dukkhāya aphāsuvihārāya.
Greed, great king, when arises within a person, arise for his harm, suffering, and discomfort.
Greed,

Doso kho, mahārāja, purisassa dhammo ajjhattaṁ uppajjamāno uppajjati ahitāya dukkhāya aphāsuvihārāya.
Hatred great king, when arises within a person, arise for his harm, suffering, and discomfort.
hate,

Moho kho, mahārāja, purisassa dhammo ajjhattaṁ uppajjamāno uppajjati ahitāya dukkhāya aphāsuvihārāya.
Delusion great king, when arises within a person, arise for his harm, suffering, and discomfort.
and delusion.

Ime kho, mahārāja, tayo purisassa dhammā ajjhattaṁ uppajjamānā uppajjanti ahitāya dukkhāya aphāsuvihārāyā”ti.
“These three, great king, are three things which, when they arise within a person, arise for his harm, suffering, and discomfort. ”
These three things arise inside a person for their harm, suffering, and discomfort.”

That is what the Buddha said. …

“Lobho doso ca moho ca,
“Greed, hatred, and delusion,
“When greed, hate, and delusion,

purisaṁ pāpacetasaṁ;
Arisen from within oneself,
have arisen inside oneself,

Hiṁsanti attasambhūtā,
Injure the person of evil mind
they harm a person of wicked heart,

tacasāraṁva samphalan”ti.
As its own fruit destroys the reed.
as a reed is destroyed by its own fruit.”
