Vedanāaññāṇasutta

Not Knowing Feeling

Sāvatthinidānaṁ.
At Sāvatthī.

Ekamantaṁ nisinno kho vacchagotto paribbājako bhagavantaṁ etadavoca:
Then the wanderer Vacchagotta said to the Buddha:

“ko nu kho, bho gotama, hetu, ko paccayo, yānimāni anekavihitāni diṭṭhigatāni loke uppajjanti—
“What is the cause, Mister Gotama, what is the reason why these various misconceptions arise in the world? That is:

sassato lokoti vā, asassato lokoti vā …pe…
the cosmos is eternal, or not eternal …

neva hoti na na hoti tathāgato paraṁ maraṇāti vā”ti?
after death, a realized one neither still exists nor no longer exists.”

“Vedanāya kho, vaccha, aññāṇā, vedanāsamudaye aññāṇā, vedanānirodhe aññāṇā, vedanānirodhagāminiyā paṭipadāya aññāṇā;
“Vaccha, it is because of not knowing feeling, its origin, its cessation, and the practice that leads to its cessation

evamimāni anekavihitāni diṭṭhigatāni loke uppajjanti—
that these various misconceptions arise in the world.

sassato lokoti vā, asassato lokoti vā …pe…

neva hoti na na hoti tathāgato paraṁ maraṇāti vāti.

Ayaṁ kho, vaccha, hetu, ayaṁ paccayo, yānimāni anekavihitāni diṭṭhigatāni loke uppajjanti—
This is the cause, this is the reason.”

sassato lokoti vā, asassato lokoti vā …pe…

neva hoti na na hoti tathāgato paraṁ maraṇāti vā”ti.

Dutiyaṁ.
