Ekamantaį¹ nisinno kho so bhikkhu bhagavantaį¹ etadavoca: Seated to one side, that mendicant said to the Buddha:
āko nu kho, bhante, hetu, ko paccayo, yenekadÄ vÄto hotÄ«āti? āSir, what is the cause, what is the reason why sometimes it becomes windy?ā
āSanti, bhikkhu, vÄtavalÄhakÄ nÄma devÄ. āMendicant, there are what are called gods of the windy clouds.
Tesaį¹ yadÄ evaį¹ hoti: Sometimes they think:
āyannÅ«na mayaį¹ sakÄya ratiyÄ vaseyyÄmÄāti, tesaį¹ taį¹ cetopaį¹idhimanvÄya vÄto hoti. āWhy donāt we revel in our own kind of enjoyment?ā Then, in accordance with their wish, it becomes windy.
Ayaį¹ kho, bhikkhu, hetu, ayaį¹ paccayo, yenekadÄ vÄto hotÄ«āti. This is the cause, this is the reason why sometimes it becomes windy.ā
