Chapter Seven
“Etadaggaṁ, bhikkhave, mama sāvikānaṁ upāsikānaṁ paṭhamaṁ saraṇaṁ gacchantīnaṁ yadidaṁ sujātā seniyadhītā.
“The foremost of my laywomen in first going for refuge is Sujātā the general’s daughter.
… Dāyikānaṁ yadidaṁ visākhā migāramātā.
… as a donor is Visākhā, Migāra’s mother.
… Bahussutānaṁ yadidaṁ khujjuttarā.
… who are very learned is Khujjuttarā.
… Mettāvihārīnaṁ yadidaṁ sāmāvatī.
… who dwell in love is Sāmāvatī.
… Jhāyīnaṁ yadidaṁ uttarānandamātā.
… who practice absorption is Uttarānanda’s mother.
… Paṇītadāyikānaṁ yadidaṁ suppavāsā koliyadhītā.
… who give fine things is Suppavāsā the Koliyan.
… Gilānupaṭṭhākīnaṁ yadidaṁ suppiyā upāsikā.
… who care for the sick is the laywoman Suppiyā.
… Aveccappasannānaṁ yadidaṁ kātiyānī.
… who have experiential confidence is Kātiyānī.
… Vissāsikānaṁ yadidaṁ nakulamātā gahapatānī.
… who are intimate is the householder Nakula’s mother.
… Anussavappasannānaṁ yadidaṁ kāḷī upāsikā kuraragharikā”ti.
… whose confidence is based on oral transmission is the laywoman Kāḷī of Kuraraghara.”
