Accharāsutta

Nymphs Nymphs

“Accharāgaṇasaṅghuṭṭhaṁ,
“It’s resounding with a group of nymphs,
“Resounding with a host of nymphs,

pisācagaṇasevitaṁ;
but haunted by a gang of goblins!
Haunted by a host of demons!

Vanantaṁ mohanaṁ nāma,
This grove is called ‘Delusion’.
This grove is to be called ‘Deluding’:

kathaṁ yātrā bhavissatī”ti.
How will I keep going?”
How does one escape from it?”

“Ujuko nāma so maggo,
“That path is called ‘the straight way’,
“‘The straight way’ that path is called,

abhayā nāma sā disā;
and it’s headed for the place called ‘fearless’.
And ‘fearless’ is its destination.

Ratho akūjano nāma,
The chariot is called ‘unswerving’,
The chariot is called ‘unrattling, ’

dhammacakkehi saṁyuto.
fitted with wheels of skillful thoughts.
Fitted with wheels of wholesome states.

Hirī tassa apālambo,
Conscience is its bench-back,
“The sense of shame is its leaning board,

satyassa parivāraṇaṁ;
mindfulness its upholstery.
Mindfulness its upholstery;

Dhammāhaṁ sārathiṁ brūmi,
I say the teaching is the driver,
I call the Dhamma the charioteer,

sammādiṭṭhipurejavaṁ.
with right view running out in front.
With right view running out in front.

Yassa etādisaṁ yānaṁ,
Any woman or man
“One who has such a vehicle—

itthiyā purisassa vā;
who has such a vehicle,
Whether a woman or a man—

Sa ve etena yānena,
by means of this vehicle
Has, by means of this vehicle,

nibbānasseva santike”ti.
has drawn near to extinguishment.”
Drawn close to Nibbāna. ”
