Planters Planters of Groves
“Kesaṁ divā ca ratto ca,
“Whose merit always grows
“For both by day and by night,
sadā puññaṁ pavaḍḍhati;
by day and by night?
Whom does merit always increase?
Dhammaṭṭhā sīlasampannā,
Firm in principle, accomplished in conduct,
Established in Dhamma, endowed with virtue,
ke janā saggagāmino”ti.
who is going to heaven?”
Who are the people going to heaven?”
“Ārāmaropā vanaropā,
“Planters of parks or groves,
“Those who set up a park or a grove,
ye janā setukārakā;
those who build a bridge,
The people who construct a bridge,
Papañca udapānañca,
a drinking place and well,
A place to drink and a well,
ye dadanti upassayaṁ.
and those who give a residence.
Those who give a residence:
Tesaṁ divā ca ratto ca,
Their merit always grows
“For both by day and by night,
sadā puññaṁ pavaḍḍhati;
by day and by night.
For them merit always increases;
Dhammaṭṭhā sīlasampannā,
Firm in principle, accomplished in conduct,
Established in Dhamma, endowed with virtue,
