Old Age Old Age

“Kiṁsu yāva jarā sādhu,
A devatā: “What is good until old age?
“What’s still good in old age?

kiṁsu sādhu patiṭṭhitaṁ;
What is good when established?
What’s good when grounded?

Kiṁsu narānaṁ ratanaṁ,
What is the precious gem of humans?
What is people’s treasure?

kiṁsu corehi dūharan”ti.
What is hard for thieves to steal?”
What’s hard for thieves to take?”

“Sīlaṁ yāva jarā sādhu,
The Blessed One: “Virtue is good until old age;
“Ethics are still good in old age.

saddhā sādhu patiṭṭhitā;
Faith is good when established;
Faith is good when grounded.

Paññā narānaṁ ratanaṁ,
Wisdom is the precious gem of humans;
Wisdom is people’s treasure.

puññaṁ corehi dūharan”ti.
Merit is hard for thieves to steal. ”
Merit’s hard for thieves to take.”
