Provisions Provisions for a Journey

“Kiṁsu bandhati pātheyyaṁ,
“How should provisions be tied up?
“What secures provisions for a journey?

kiṁsu bhogānamāsayo;
What’s the lair of wealth?
What is the abode of wealth?

Kiṁsu naraṁ parikassati,
What drags a person around?
What drags a person around?

kiṁsu lokasmi dujjahaṁ;
What in the world is hard to give up?
What in the world is hard to discard?

Kismiṁ baddhā puthū sattā,
What are many beings tied up with,
By what are many beings bound

pāsena sakuṇī yathā”ti.
like birds in a snare?”
Like birds caught in a snare?”

“Saddhā bandhati pātheyyaṁ,
“Provisions should be tied up with faith.
“Faith secures provisions for a journey;

sirī bhogānamāsayo;
Glory is the lair of wealth.
Fortune is the abode of wealth;

Icchā naraṁ parikassati,
Desire drags a person around.
Desire drags a person around;

icchā lokasmi dujjahā;
Desire in the world is hard to give up.
Desire is hard to discard in the world.

Icchābaddhā puthū sattā,
Many beings are tied up with desire,
By desire many beings are bound

pāsena sakuṇī yathā”ti.
