Nandasutta
With Nanda Nanda
Ekamantaṁ ṭhito kho nando devaputto bhagavato santike imaṁ gāthaṁ abhāsi:
Standing to one side, the god Nanda recited this verse in the Buddha’s presence:
Standing to one side, the young deva Nanda recited this verse in the presence of the Blessed One:
“Accenti kālā tarayanti rattiyo,
“Time flies, nights pass by,
“Time flies by, the nights swiftly pass;
Vayoguṇā anupubbaṁ jahanti;
the stages of life leave us one by one.
The stages of life successively desert us.
Etaṁ bhayaṁ maraṇe pekkhamāno,
Seeing this peril in death,
Seeing clearly this danger in death,
Puññāni kayirātha sukhāvahānī”ti.
you should do good deeds that bring happiness.”
One should do deeds of merit that bring happiness. ”
