Delightful A Delightful Place

Sāvatthiyaṁ jetavane.

Atha kho sakko devānamindo yena bhagavā tenupasaṅkami; upasaṅkamitvā bhagavantaṁ abhivādetvā ekamantaṁ aṭṭhāsi. Ekamantaṁ ṭhito kho sakko devānamindo bhagavantaṁ etadavoca:
And then Sakka, lord of gods, went up to the Buddha, bowed, stood to one side, and said to him,
Then Sakka, lord of the devas, approached the Blessed One, paid homage to him, stood to one side, and said to him:

“kiṁ nu kho, bhante, bhūmirāmaṇeyyakan”ti?
“Sir, what is a delightful place?”
“Venerable sir, what is a delightful place?”

“Ārāmacetyā vanacetyā,
“Shrines in parks and forests,
“Shrines in parks and woodland shrines,

pokkharañño sunimmitā;
well-made lotus ponds,
Well-constructed lotus ponds:

Manussarāmaṇeyyassa,
are not worth a sixteenth part
Of a delightful human being

kalaṁ nāgghanti soḷasiṁ.
of a delightful human being.
These are not worth a sixteenth part.

Gāme vā yadi vāraññe,
Whether in village or wilderness,
Whether in a village or forest,

Ninne vā yadi vā thale;
in a valley or the uplands,
In a valley or on the plain—

Yattha arahanto viharanti,
wherever the perfected ones live
Wherever the arahants dwell

Taṁ bhūmirāmaṇeyyakan”ti.
