Subhūtittheragāthā

Nidānagāthā
Background
Namo tassa Bhagavato Arahato Sammāsambuddhassa.
Homage to that Blessed One, the perfected one, the fully awakened Buddha!
Sīhānaṁva nadantānaṁ,
Like the lions of mighty fang
dāṭhīnaṁ girigabbhare;
who roar in mountain caves—
Suṇātha bhāvitattānaṁ,
hear now from those who’ve practiced well
gāthā atthūpanāyikā.
their own verses about themselves.
Yathānāmā yathāgottā,
What their name, and what their clan,
yathādhammavihārino;
and how they lived by the teaching;
Yathādhimuttā sappaññā,
how dedicated were those wise ones,
vihariṁsu atanditā.
as they meditated tirelessly.
Tattha tattha vipassitvā,
Clearly discerning in every case,
phusitvā accutaṁ padaṁ;
they reached the state that does not pass.
Katantaṁ paccavekkhantā,
Reviewing their completed task,
imamatthamabhāsisuṁ.
they spoke about it in these words.
Subhūtittheragāthā
Subhūti
“Channā me kuṭikā sukhā nivātā,
My little hut is roofed and pleasant, <j>sheltered from the wind:
Vassa deva yathāsukhaṁ;
so rain, heavens, as you please!
Cittaṁ me susamāhitaṁ vimuttaṁ,
My mind is serene and freed,
Ātāpī viharāmi vassa devā”ti.
I practice wholeheartedly: so rain, heavens!
Itthaṁ sudaṁ āyasmā subhūtitthero gāthaṁ abhāsitthāti.
That is how this verse was recited by the senior venerable Subhūti.
