Bhattuddesakasutta A Meal Designator

ā€œCatÅ«hi, bhikkhave, dhammehi samannāgato bhattuddesako yathābhataį¹ nikkhitto evaį¹ niraye. ā€œMendicants, a meal designator who has four qualities is cast down to hell.

Katamehi catūhi? What four?

Chandāgatiį¹ gacchati, dosāgatiį¹ gacchati, mohāgatiį¹ gacchati, bhayāgatiį¹ gacchatiā€”They make decisions prejudiced by favoritism, hostility, stupidity, and cowardice.

imehi kho, bhikkhave, catÅ«hi dhammehi samannāgato bhattuddesako yathābhataį¹ nikkhitto evaį¹ niraye. A meal designator who has these four qualities is cast down to hell.

CatÅ«hi, bhikkhave, dhammehi samannāgato bhattuddesako yathābhataį¹ nikkhitto evaį¹ sagge. A meal designator who has four qualities is raised up to heaven.

Katamehi catūhi? What four?

Na chandāgatiį¹ gacchati, na dosāgatiį¹ gacchati, na mohāgatiį¹ gacchati, na bhayāgatiį¹ gacchatiā€”They make decisions unprejudiced by favoritism, hostility, stupidity, and cowardice.

Ye keci kāmesu asaƱƱatā janā, All those people with unbridled sensuality,

Adhammikā honti adhammagāravā; unprincipled, with no respect for principle,

Chandā dosā mohā ca bhayā gāmino, led astray by favoritism, hostility, stupidity, or cowardice,

Parisākasaį¹­o ca panesa vuccati. are called ā€˜an assembly of the dregsā€™:

EvaƱhi vuttaį¹ samaį¹‡ena jānatā, thatā€™s what was said by the ascetic who knows.

Tasmā hi te sappurisā pasaį¹siyā; And so those praiseworthy true persons,

Dhamme į¹­hitā ye na karonti pāpakaį¹, standing on principle, doing nothing wrong,

Na chandā na dosā na mohā na bhayā ca gāmino; not led astray by favoritism, hostility, stupidity, or cowardice,

Parisāya maį¹‡įøo ca panesa vuccati, are called ā€˜an assembly of the creamā€™:

EvaƱhi vuttaį¹ samaį¹‡ena jānatāā€ti. thatā€™s what was said by the ascetic who knows.ā€
