āSaddho ca, bhikkhave, bhikkhu hoti, no ca sÄ«lavÄ. āA mendicant is faithful, but not ethical.

gena aparipÅ«ro hoti. So theyāre incomplete in that respect,

ākintÄhaį¹ saddho ca assaį¹ sÄ«lavÄ cÄāti. āHow can I become faithful and ethical?ā

parisÄvacaro ca, no ca visÄrado parisÄya dhammaį¹ deseti ā¦peā¦ they donāt teach Dhamma to the assembly with assurance ā¦
visÄrado ca parisÄya dhammaį¹ deseti, no ca ye te santÄ vimokkhÄ atikkamma rÅ«pe ÄruppÄ te kÄyena phusitvÄ viharati ā¦peā¦ they donāt have direct meditative experience of the peaceful liberations that are formless, transcending form ā¦
ye te santÄ vimokkhÄ atikkamma rÅ«pe ÄruppÄ te kÄyena phusitvÄ viharati, no ca ÄsavÄnaį¹ khayÄ anÄsavaį¹ cetovimuttiį¹ paƱƱÄvimuttiį¹ diį¹į¹heva dhamme sayaį¹ abhiĆ±Ć±Ä sacchikatvÄ upasampajja viharati; they donāt realize the undefiled freedom of heart and freedom by wisdom in this very life, and live having realized it with their own insight due to the ending of defilements.

Imehi kho, bhikkhave, aį¹į¹hahi dhammehi samannÄgato bhikkhu samantapÄsÄdiko ca hoti sabbÄkÄraparipÅ«ro cÄāti. A mendicant who has these eight qualities is impressive all around, and is complete in every respect.ā
