toį¹£į¹Ä« sukhÄ yÄ itarÄ«tarena sabbassa pÄpassa sukhaį¹ prahÄį¹aį¹ ą„¤ą„¤ being content with everything is good, the abandoning of all wickedness is good.
sukhÄ mÄtreatÄ loke tato petteatÄ sukhÄ ą„¤ Respecting oneās mother is good in the world, also respecting oneās father is good,
ÅÄmannatÄ sukhÄ loke tato brÄhmannatÄ sukhÄ ą„¤ą„¤ respecting ascetics is good in the world, also respecting true brahmins is good.
sukhaį¹ yÄvaj jarÄ ÅÄ«laį¹ sukhÄ ÅraddhÄ pratiį¹£į¹hitÄ ą„¤ Virtuous conduct till old age is good, the establishing of faith is good,
sukhÄ attharasÄ vÄcÄ assiį¹ mÄnakkhayo sukho ą„¤ą„¤ speech that is beneficial is good, the destruction of conceit is good.
sukho buddhÄna uppÄdo sukhÄ dhammassa deÅanÄ ą„¤ The arising of the Buddhas is good, the teaching of the Dhamma is good,
sukhÄ saį¹ghassa sÄmaggrÄ« samaggrÄį¹Äį¹ tapo sukho ą„¤ą„¤ the harmony of the Saį¹
gha is good, devotion to harmony is good.
sukhaį¹ daį¹Åanam ayirÄį¹Äį¹ saį¹vÄso pi satÄį¹ sukho ą„¤ Meeting with the noble is pleasant, living with good people is pleasant,
addaį¹Åanena bÄlÄnÄį¹ niccam eva sukhÄ« siyÄ ą„¤ą„¤ through not meeting foolish people one will constantly be happy.

gatacÄrÄ« hi drÄ«gham addhÄna Åocati ą„¤ For he who consorts with fools grieves for a long time,

tassÄ hi dhÄ«raį¹ ca bahuÅÅutaƱ ca dhoreyaÅÄ«lavratamantam ayiraį¹ ą„¤ Therefore the firm and the learned, the virtuous, dutiful and nobleā
taį¹ tÄrisaį¹ sappuruį¹£aį¹ sumedhaį¹ sevetha nakkhattapathe va candramÄ ą„¤ą„¤ follow such a true and intelligent person as the moon follows the course of the stars.
priyÄto jÄyate dukkhaį¹ priyÄ ÅokÄ priyÄ bhayaį¹ ą„¤ From love there arises grief, with love grief, with love fear,
priyÄto vipramuttassa nÄsti ÅokÄ kato bhayaį¹ ą„¤ą„¤ for one who is free from love there is no grief, how is there fear?

chudhÄ parama rogÄį¹Äį¹ saį¹khÄraparamaį¹ dukhaį¹ ą„¤ Hunger is the supreme sickness, conditions are the supreme suffering,
etaį¹ ƱÄttÄ yathÄbhÅ«taį¹ nibbÄį¹aparamaį¹ sukhaį¹ ą„¤ą„¤ knowing this as it really is, know NibbÄna is the supreme good.
ÄroggaparamÄ lÄbhÄ sÄį¹toį¹£į¹Ä«paramaį¹ dhanaį¹ ą„¤ Health is the supreme gain, content the supreme wealth,
viÅÅÄsaparamÄ Ć±ÄtÄ« nibbÄį¹aparamaį¹ sukhaį¹ ą„¤ą„¤ confidence the supreme kin, NibbÄna the supreme good.
mÄttÄsukhapariccÄgÄ paÅÅe ce vipulÄį¹ sukhaį¹ ą„¤ If, by renouncing a small good, he might see a good that is large,
caje mÄttÄsukhaį¹ dhÄ«ro saį¹paÅÅaį¹ vipulÄį¹ sukham ą„¤ą„¤ the wise one should renounce that small good, seeing the good that is extensive.
manujassa sadÄ satÄ«mato mÄttaį¹ jÄniya laddhibhojane ą„¤ For a human who is always mindful, knowing the measure in food received,
tanukÄ āssa bhavanti vedanÄ Åanikaį¹ jÄ«rati Äyu pÄlayaį¹ ą„¤ą„¤ his painful feelings become slight, he ages slowly, guarding his lifespan.
dullabho puruį¹£Äjaį¹Ć±o na so sabbattha jÄyati ą„¤ A person of good breed is rare, that one is not born everywhere,
yattha so jÄyate vÄ«ro taį¹ kulaį¹ sukham edhati ą„¤ą„¤ wherever that hero is born, that family gains happiness.
sabbattha ve sappuruį¹£Ä bhavanti na kÄmakÄmÄ lapayanti santo ą„¤ There are surely true people everywhere, the good do not talk of desiring sense-pleasures;
sukhena phuį¹į¹hÄ uttavÄ dukhena noccÄvacaį¹ sappuruį¹£Ä karonti ą„¤ą„¤ when touched by pleasure or by suffering, true people are not elated or depressed.
jayaį¹ veraį¹ prasavati dukkhaį¹ Åeti parÄjito ą„¤ The victor generates hatred, the defeated one finds suffering,
upaÅÄnto sukhaį¹ Åeti hettÄ jayaparÄjayaį¹ ą„¤ą„¤ the one at peace lives happily, having abandoned victory and defeat.
sukhÄ najjo sÅ«patitthÄ sukho dhammajito jano ą„¤ Pleasant are rivers with good fords, pleasant is the person conquered by Dhamma,
sukho Åraddhapaį¹Ä«lÄbho pÄpassa akaraį¹aį¹ sukhaį¹ ą„¤ą„¤ the acquisition of faith is good, doing nothing wicked is good.
sukhaį¹ draį¹£į¹uį¹ ÅÄ«lavanto sukhaį¹ draį¹£į¹uį¹ bahuÅÅutÄ ą„¤ It is pleasant to meet the virtuous, it is pleasant to meet the learned,
arahanto pi sukhaį¹ draį¹£į¹uį¹ vipramuttÄ niropadhÄ« ą„¤ą„¤ it is pleasant to meet the Worthy Ones, who are free from attachments.
