Desire Desire
“Kenassu bajjhatī loko,
“What is it that binds the world?
“By what is the world bound?
kissa vinayāya muccati;
By removing what is it freed?
By the removal of what is it freed?
Kissassu vippahānena,
With the giving up of what
What is it that one must forsake
sabbaṁ chindati bandhanan”ti.
are all bonds severed?”
To cut off all bondage?”
“Icchāya bajjhatī loko,
“Desire is what binds the world.
“By desire is the world bound;
icchāvinayāya muccati;
By the removing of desire it’s freed.
By the removal of desire it is freed.
Icchāya vippahānena,
With the giving up of craving,
Desire is what one must forsake
sabbaṁ chindati bandhanan”ti.
