Cittātherīgāthā

Verses of the Elder Cittā Cittā

“Kiñcāpi khomhi kisikā,
“I was skin and bones,
Though I’m skinny,

gilānā bāḷhadubbalā;
sick, and very weak;
sick, and very feeble,

Daṇḍamolubbha gacchāmi,
but, leaning on a stick,
I climb the mountain,

pabbataṁ abhirūhiya.
I climbed the mountain.
leaning on a staff.

Saṅghāṭiṁ nikkhipitvāna,
I laid down the outer robe
Having laid down my outer robe,

pattakañca nikujjiya;
and overturned the bowl;
and overturned my bowl,

Sele khambhesimattānaṁ,
settled on a stone,
propping myself against a rock,

tamokhandhaṁ padāliyā”ti.
I destroyed this mass of darkness.”
I shattered the mass of darkness.
