“Dasa putte vijāyitvā,
I gave birth to ten sons
“I gave birth to ten children
asmiṁ rūpasamussaye;
in this form, this bag of bones.
from this same body.
Tatohaṁ dubbalā jiṇṇā,
Then, when feeble and old,
Then when I was old and feeble,
bhikkhuniṁ upasaṅkamiṁ.
I approached a nun.
I approached a bhikkhunī.
Sā me dhammamadesesi,
She taught me the Dhamma:
She taught me the Dhamma:
khandhāyatanadhātuyo;
the aggregates, sense fields, and elements.
the khandhas, elements, and sense domains.
Tassā dhammaṁ suṇitvāna,
When I heard her teaching,
After I listened to her Dhamma,
kese chetvāna pabbajiṁ.
I shaved off my hair and went forth.
I cut off my hair and went forth.
Tassā me sikkhamānāya,
When I was a trainee nun,
From training with her,
dibbacakkhu visodhitaṁ;
my clairvoyance was clarified,
my divine eye was purified.
Pubbenivāsaṁ jānāmi,
and I knew my past lives,
I know my past lives,
yattha me vusitaṁ pure.
the places I used to live.
where I dwelt previously.
Animittañca bhāvemi,
I meditate on the signless,
I cultivate objectless meditation
ekaggā susamāhitā;
my mind unified and serene.
with a well-collected and one-pointed mind.
Anantarāvimokkhāsiṁ,
I achieved the immediate liberation,
I was immediately liberated,
anupādāya nibbutā.
quenched by not grasping.
quenched because of non-grasping.
Pañcakkhandhā pariññātā,
The five aggregates are fully understood;
The five khandhas are fully understood,
tiṭṭhanti chinnamūlakā;
they remain, but their root is cut.
they remain with roots destroyed.
Dhi tavatthu jare jamme,
Curse you, wretched old age!
What does it matter that I am decrepit?
natthi dāni punabbhavo”ti.
now there’ll be no more future lives.
There is now no coming back to any state of being.”
