ā€œOlaggessāmi te citta, Iā€™ll cage you, mind,

āį¹‡idvāreva hatthinaį¹; like an elephant in a stockade.

Na taį¹ pāpe niyojessaį¹, Born of the flesh, that net of the senses,

kāmajāla sarÄ«raja. I wonā€™t urge you to do bad.

Tvaį¹ olaggo na gacchasi, Caged, you wonā€™t go anywhere,

Dvāravivaraį¹ gajova alabhanto; like an elephant who canā€™t find an open gate.

Na ca cittakali punappunaį¹, Loser mind, you wonā€™t wander again and again,

Pasakka pāparato carissasi. bullying, in love with wickedness.

Yathā kuƱjaraį¹ adantaį¹, Just as a strong trainer with a hook

Navaggahamaį¹…kusaggaho; takes a wild, newly captured elephant

Balavā āvatteti akāmaį¹, and wins it over against its will,

Evaį¹ āvattayissaį¹ taį¹. so Iā€™ll win you over.

Yathā varahayadamakusalo, Just as a fine charioteer, skilled in the taming

Sārathi pavaro dameti ājaƱƱaį¹; of fine horses, tames a thoroughbred,

Evaį¹ damayissaį¹ taį¹, so Iā€™ll tame you,

Patiį¹­į¹­hito paƱcasu balesu. firmly established in the five powers.

Satiyā taį¹ nibandhissaį¹, Iā€™ll bind you with mindfulness;

Payutto te damessāmi; devout, I shall tame you;

VÄ«riyadhuraniggahito, kept in check by harnessed energy,

Na yito dÅ«raį¹ gamissase cittāā€ti. mind, you wonā€™t go far from here.
