Nandatisutta Delight Delight

Sāvatthinidānaį¹. At SāvatthÄ«. At Savatthi.

Ekamantaį¹ į¹­hitā kho sā devatā bhagavato santike imaį¹ gāthaį¹ abhāsi: Standing to one side, that deity recited this verse in the Buddhaā€™s presence: Standing to one side, that devatā recited this verse in the presence of the Blessed One:

ā€œNandati puttehi puttimā, ā€œChildren bring you delight! ā€œOne who has sons delights in sons,

Gomā gohi tatheva nandati; Cattle also bring you delight! One with cattle delights in cattle.

UpadhÄ«hi narassa nandanā, For attachments are a manā€™s delight; Acquisitions truly are a manā€™s delight;

Na hi so nandati yo nirÅ«padhÄ«ā€ti. without attachments thereā€™s no delight.ā€ Without acquisitions one does not delight. ā€
