Sītavalāhakasutta Gods of the Cool Clouds

Sāvatthinidānaį¹. At SāvatthÄ«.

Ekamantaį¹ nisinno kho so bhikkhu bhagavantaį¹ etadavoca: Seated to one side, that mendicant said to the Buddha:

ā€œko nu kho, bhante, hetu, ko paccayo, yenekadā sÄ«taį¹ hotÄ«ā€ti? ā€œSir, what is the cause, what is the reason why sometimes it becomes cool?ā€

ā€œSanti, bhikkhu, sÄ«tavalāhakā nāma devā. ā€œMendicant, there are what are called gods of the cool clouds.

Tesaį¹ yadā evaį¹ hoti: Sometimes they think:

ā€˜yannÅ«na mayaį¹ sakāya ratiyā vaseyyāmāā€™ti, tesaį¹ taį¹ cetopaį¹‡idhimanvāya sÄ«taį¹ hoti. ā€˜Why donā€™t we revel in our own kind of enjoyment?ā€™ Then, in accordance with their wish, it becomes cool.

Ayaį¹ kho, bhikkhu, hetu, ayaį¹ paccayo, yenekadā sÄ«taį¹ hotÄ«ā€ti. This is the cause, this is the reason why sometimes it becomes cool.ā€
